Prepping for Laser

Your preferred treatment center will ask you to make a few small changes prior to your session to ensure you’re getting optimal results!

- Staying out of the sun:
Avoid sun exposure anywhere from 4-6 weeks prior to your laser session. Suntans and sunless tanning can alter the effects of laser and increase the chances of skin lightening. Wait until your tan has faded to schedule your first appointment.

- Avoid Waxing/Plucking:
You’ll also be asked to stop any method of hair removal 3-4 weeks prior that removes the hair from the root. This will preserve the hair follicle that’ll later be treated with laser for permanent removal. Shaving is allowed, as it doesn’t disrupt the hair shaft/follicle.

- Cleanse your skin:
You want to make sure your skin is freshly shaved and free of bacteria before your appointment. though it will be cleansed once again by a professional at the medical practice, prior to starting your session.

Wear comfortable clothes:
Wear breathable/loose fitting clothing pieces that’ll leave the treated area exposed. The laser may leave your skin slightly sensitive and you won’t want tight or abrasive clothes to further irritate it.

What to Expect

Time: The length of your laser hair removal appointment depends on the size of the area being treated. Sessions can last anywhere from just a couple of minutes to a few hours.

Pain: Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. When the laser is activated, you’ll begin to feel a prickly burning sensation, the pain is similar to that of a rubber band lightly snapping on your skin. Most places let you choose if you'd like to a topical anesthetic before they start your treatment!

Post-Laser: You may experience minor swelling, redness, or tenderness in the treated area. Scabbing and bruising are also common but should disappear within a few days. You may start notice shedding and closer to your next appointment, you may notice hair some patches of regrowth. These are all completely normal after-effects of laser treatment.
